ITANAGAR, Jul 27:  The Arunachal Pradesh Trade Union Federation (APTUF) has accused the Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (APB&OCWWB), of fund misappropriation.
Speaking to reporters at the Arunachal Press Club (APC), Chairman APTUF Changma Tajo stated that the chairman of APB&OCWWB should be appointed from experienced workers who have been associated with the trade union for many years. Tajo criticized the practice of appointing Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) as chairpersons of the board, asserting that they are unable to serve the board's purpose adequately as they must also attend to their respective constituencies. He further claimed that the guidelines of the Ministry of Labour board order has collapsed.
The federation accused the APB&OCWWB of misusing the funds allocated for the welfare of labourers under centrally sponsored schemes. APTUF urged the board to comply with the Supreme Court's order regarding the proper implementation of guidelines.
Chairman Tajo informed that the federation had already passed a resolution outlining the selection criteria for the chairman of the labour board. According to the resolution, the chairman should not be appointed from elected leaders or non-trade union leaders in the next tenure.
Among the other demands put forth by the federation were an enhancement of the work charge (WC) for the engineering department (PWD) from Rs. 19,000 to Rs. 24,000. They also urged for the regularization of workers who have completed more than 30 years of service or more by framing appropriate policies and requested that no announcement of the retirement of casual workers under various departments be made until they receive job regularization.
