NAMSAI, Jul 7: A meeting in connection with the launch of ‘Natural Resources Inventory for Micro Level Agricultural Planning (NRIMAP)’ by the State Remote Sensing Application Centre (SRSAC), in collaboration with RSI, was held  at Namsai.
Dr. B.V.V Ramana Kumar, CEO, RSI, Hyderabad, apprised the gathering about the importance of the base and thematic maps that were actually developed using realtime ground truth(field work). He listed the outcomes of the project and in the process explained about the updated district boundaries, transport networks, drainages and how the maps can be used to assess the suitability of different crops to be cultivated in the district. He also mentioned that the Topo sheets prepared by ASI were in the scale of 1:50000 and many new developments cannot be found hence a more precise base map with 1:10,000 scale was prepared that can aid in better precision for town planning, agriculture, horticulture etc. He further informed that all the information shown will be available on the web and phone application, for the users to devise an inclusive and conducive plan for execution of any work. 
Joint Director-cum-Nodal Officer (State Plan), SRSAC, Dr Liagi Tajo apprised that the objective of the meeting was to impart technical know how about the project and the ways of its implementation by the district officials. He emphasised that the project has huge scope of application specially for agriculture, horticulture and work departments. Informing that every detail has been encompassed in the project, he gave an overview of the process that was initiated last year and the the long activities undertaken over months to bring about completion of the project.
 “Namsai is one out of the three districts where the project is being implemented on prototype basis,"  he informed.
Through a power point presentation, the phase wise scope of work was explained which included preparation of delineation of watersheds, preparation of different thematic maps, action plan for land and water resources development etc. Base maps prepared using resolution of Cartosat-1 imaging were shown and information such as vegetation, boundary, drainage etc. which can be inferred using the maps were explained at length. 
DPO, Dr. K Sharma speaking on the occasion listed the areas of applicability of the project. He stated that crop selection for cultivation can be done using GIS information and the entire project will ultimately aid in development of agri and allied sector.
The  meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Namsai, ADC Namsai all heads of offices.
