ITANAGAR, May 3: The Arunachal Press Club, Arunachal Union of Working Journalists and the Arunachal Electronic and Digital Media Association on Wednesday jointly celebrated the world press freedom day at the press club.
Speaking on the occasion APUWJ president Amar Sangno stated that the media should reassure society of the actual role of a journalist. He said that apart from disseminating information, our job is to verify the information and disseminate correct information.
Adding to that, he said that every journalist should practice this responsibility. He said that a journalist should cross verify the facts before printing or broadcasting.
Vice president Arunachal Press Club Bengia Ajum stated that the reporters should do reporting without borders. He said, a journalist has no clan, no tribe and it should not be biased. One should do a report based on truth, facts and figures.
APUWJ Vice President Ranju Dodum spoke on media's role in ethical journalism. The Union's general secretary Sonam Jelly also spoke at the event.
Meanwhile, AEDMA President Toko Tagam said that the press should use their freedom judiciously. He said journalism and activism cannot go hand in hand.
The members also observed a one-minute silence for the demise of RC Bodoi, the father of  AEDMA General Secretary  cum  Editor, Arunachal Today, Sangge Droma and Gyamar Padang, the whistleblower of AE exam paper leak issue.
