PASIGHAT, Mar 22: A two-day state level workshop on strategies for harnessing the potential of spices production in Arunachal Pradesh was started today at College of Horticulture & Forestry (CH&F), Pasighat. Sponsored by the Directorate of Areca  nut and spices development, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, GoI and National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (NABARD), Itanagar the workshop was organized under project on Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) by the CH&F, Pasighat.

Inaugurating the event, Vice Chancellor CAU Imphal, Prof M Premjit Singh urged all the scientific fraternity and frontline extension personnel to work in convergence mode to satisfy the needs of the farming community of the region as well as the state. 

GM, NABARD, Itanagar, S Sankarnarayanan, also focused to the august house regarding the different credit link support and schemes of NABARD designed as different stakeholders. He also informed that NABARD is going to establish three Mega Food Parks in different districts of Arunachal Pradesh viz East Siang, West Kameng, and Papumpare to utilize their surplus food production of horticultural crops and motivate to state value addition of their products to fetch the good price in the market. 

Prof. AK Pandey, Dean of CHF Pasighat stated that spices and horticultural production was very low as per the market demand and called upon the scientists’ fraternity for fruitful deliberations to formulate the strategies and roadmap for imitating production and develop the NEH as spice hub. 

Altogether, 58 participants from nine districts including heads of various line departments, Scientists and Sr. Scientist & head of KVKs and researchers and renowned academicians are taking part in the seminar. DIPRO
