ITANAGAR, Aug 13: The stage is set for the 71st Independence Day celebrations at the Indira Gandhi Park here on August 15 next. Rehearsals were being held at the parade grounds for the past two weeks and the final dress rehearsal was done this morning. The celebrations will see participation of around 25 contingents from Para Military, IRBn, State Police, NCC, Scouts & Guide and school children from across the capital complex. Moreover, this year a women contingent from Nagaland Armed Police is also participating in the parade.
To ensure that the celebrations are held without any glitch, the city police has put in place elaborate security arrangements. This time, arrangements have been made to accommodate more than 1000 people and there will be seats available for VVIPs, VIPs, Defence personnel, government officials, state awardees including the general public.
‘There will be three entry points, public can enter both from Sector- D and C gates whereas VIP, VVIP will be entering from VIP road gate,’ informed Superintendent of Police, Capital Dr A Koan.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu will unfurl the nation flag at 9AM followed by guard of honour from the parade contingents, Independence Day speech, announcement of state awards and colourful cultural display from various participants are part of the lineup.
