ITANAGAR, Aug 30: In a strong show of protest, more than a hundred BJP workers today staged a massive rally and burnt the effigies of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge over alleged derogatory remarks against the late mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The protest, spearheaded by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and Mahila Morcha, Arunachal Pradesh, commenced from Ganga Market and culminated at the Tennis Court in IG Park. Carrying placards and raising slogans, the demonstrators denounced Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, accusing them of disrespecting the Prime Minister and his family.
Addressing the gathering, BJP Chief Spokesperson Mutchu Mithi termed the remarks “an insult to Indian values” and demanded a public apology from the Congress leadership.
In a separate press briefing, State BJP Spokesperson Tobom Dai strongly condemned the Congress leader, stating, “Mother is regarded as the most respected figure in a family, and dragging the Prime Minister’s late mother into political discourse is against Indian culture.”
The State BJP further demanded that Rahul Gandhi tender an unconditional apology to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to his revered late mother, and to the people of India for his “irresponsible statements and attempts to malign the highest office of the country.”
The party also lashed out at the Congress, saying instead of indulging in “cheap political theatrics” and “misleading rallies,” it must apologize to the nation for lowering the dignity of public life.
Reaffirming its stand, the BJP Arunachal Pradesh unit said such rhetoric by the Congress not only insults the Prime Minister and the institution he represents but also demeans the democratic spirit of the nation.
