ITANAGAR, Jan 23: State BJP workers today staged a protest against the recent Chinese intrusion in Upper Subansiri district and burnt the effigy of Chinese President Xi Jinping here in the state capital.

Speaking to the media, State BJP Spokesperson Techi Necha while referring to the repeated Chinese claims that Arunachal Pradesh is their territory, said the people of the state want to send a strong message to China that they are proud Indians. “The said location was occupied in 1959 during Congress regime which not only failed to protect the area but also didn’t bring development in the border areas of Arunachal,” Necha alleged.

Defending the ruling BJP government, the spokesperson said that the Central government is constructing the 2000 km long Arunachal Frontier Highway along the McMahon Line and roads and bridges in border areas like Gelling in Upper Siang, Kaho and Chaglagam in Anjaw district have already been completed. When asked if there is any failure in gathering intelligence inputs or negligence on the part of Central government despite repeated cautions by BJP MP from Arunachal East Tapir Gao in Parliament, the BJP Spokesperson asserted that there are no such lapses and the Centre is taking time to respond only due to some diplomatic reasons.

Reacting to their village-building exercise in Arunachal as flashed by the media, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying claimed that China's position in the eastern sector of the Indo-China border or in the Zangnan region (the southern part of China's Tibet) is consistent and clear. “We have never recognised the so-called Arunachal Pradesh which has been illegally established within Chinese territory. China's normal construction in its own territory is entirely a matter of sovereignty,” he added.
