ITANAGAR, July 8: Day after the AAPSU held protest against the Sports Department, led by its Sports Secretary Zentle Mosu, Minister for Sports Kento Jini today called a meeting with the Union’s members  today.
The  major outcomes of the meeting was the formation of an Expert Committee under the chairmanship of Dr. Mari Angu, Joint Secretary AR.  The committee has been tasked with reviewing AAPSU’s long-standing demand for 80% direct recruitment of District Sports Officers (DSOs) and is expected to submit its report within 20 days. This development is seen as a strong step towards addressing youth employment and boosting grassroots sports governance.
Additionally, the Minister has assured that the five already sanctioned coaching posts will be referred to the APPSC or APSSB within a month. Alongside this, recruitment for 29 new posts, including four wardens, will soon commence following proper codal procedures, ensuring transparency and fairness.
The government also committed to enhancing the student intake at Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA), once the ongoing infrastructure development is completed within two years at Miao Sports Academy. This move is expected to provide greater opportunities for aspiring sportspersons across the state.
Immediate relief has been promised for SLSA, where issues of irregular power supply and lack of court maintenance have plagued students. These concerns will be addressed on priority, the minister assured.
In another key development aimed at ensuring financial transparency, the Director of Sports has been directed to submit a detailed report on fund utilization at SLSA to AAPSU within five days.
Jini described the meeting  as “a meaningful and forward-looking engagement,” reaffirming the government’s commitment to collaborate with youth bodies like AAPSU to build a robust and inclusive sports ecosystem in Arunachal Pradesh.
