Timely submission of charge sheet, expeditious trial process ensure early delivery of justice

 

KHONSA, Mar 6: The Special Court, POCSO, Khonsa on Friday convicted a man on charges of aggravated sexual assault on his own daughter u/s 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and sentenced him to 7-year rigorous imprisonment along with a fine.
From the details of the case it transpired that the convict used to reside with his two minor children as their mother had expired few years ago. As per the statement of the victim, a minor around 13 years of age, on the day of the incident while she was asleep her father assaulted her sexually under coercion. The victim resisted her father and in the ensuing hue and cry her elder brother woke up. The accused then physically assaulted both of them with a bamboo stick and threatened with dire consequences if the matter is disclosed to anyone.
The next day both the victim and her brother managed to flee from the house and lodged an FIR at Deomali Police Station. SI N. Lowang took prompt action and apprehended the accused father and after investigation submitted a charge sheet. The Special Court expeditiously completed the trial and convicted the accused u/s 323 of the IPC and Section 10 of the POCSO Act. The court meanwhile has also referred the case to the District Legal Services Authority, Tirap so that the victim gets adequate compensation for her rehabilitation under Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme, 2011.
The police department handling the case has withheld the identities of the offender and the victim in conformity with the provisions of Section 23 of the POCSO Act. DIPRO
