ITANAGAR, Apr 29: In a landmark judgment in the ongoing war against narcotics, the  Special Court (NDPS) has convicted four individuals in connection with Itanagar Police Station Case No. 100/2018. The case, involving the supply and sale of cannabis in commercial quantities, marks a significant win for the Capital Police under the continued efforts of Operation Dawn.
The court sentenced  Yowa Yare and Banti Singh to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for supplying cannabis in commercial quantities. Nguri Yayi and Charu Mala to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment for selling the contraband.
The convictions come as a result of a diligent and efficient investigation led by Inspector Neeraj Nishant, Officer-in-Charge of PS Chimpu, whose commitment and thorough work were instrumental in securing the verdict.
Capital Police also commended the NDPS Public Prosecutor for presenting a strong and effective case in court, ensuring justice was served.
Reaffirming its tough stance against drug trafficking, Capital Police emphasized its zero-tolerance policy under Operation Dawn, which combines strict enforcement, community awareness, and preventive action to combat the drug menace.
SP Itanagar, in the press statement, has reiterated that such convictions send a strong message to those involved in the illegal drug trade and serve as a reminder of the police’s unwavering commitment to protecting the youth and society from narcotics.
