ZIRO, Oct 16: Superintendent of Police, Lower Subansiri, Dr Hemant Tiwari has issued a statement regarding the death of one Godak Tapung who was arrested by police at Ziro on October 2 last with 5 grams of suspected contraband substance.
SP in his statement clarified that late Godak was arrested on October 2 last and sent to judicial custody on October 4 last.  Further bail was granted on October 14 last and subsequently, he was released at around 1440 hrs of the same day.
‘He was seen in the market with his friends in a healthy condition in the  evening of October 14 and the incident  of his death was reported on the intervening night of October 14-15,' stated the SP.
Now some miscreants are spreading rumours that he died because of police atrocities. Some others are going one step further to disturb communal harmony on various social media platforms like Facebook & WhatsApp.
SP further stated 'I want to clarify that he was in judicial custody for about ten days wherein he was in no contact with Police. He was not at all harassed or ill-treated by police at any point of time.'
After his death his family categorically denied any foul play and even not  agreed to our suggestion of Post Mortem of the body.
However if any complaint is received with his death immediate action as per established law will be taken.I request everyone to refrain from all kinds of rumour mongering, added the SP.
