MECHUKHA, Dec 2: State Assembly Speaker P D Sona on Friday inaugurated the Government Rainbow Trout Hatchery at Dechenthang village in Mechukha circle under Shi-Yomi district. Shi-Yomi ZPC Yadom Tapo, DC Mito Dirchi and Mechukga ADC Kesang Goiba also attended inaugural programme. 
Speaking on the occasion, the Speaker congratulated the fish farmers of district for the new hatchery. 
Stating that with the inauguration of the hatchery now the fish farmers can start trout farming, the Speaker called upon them to make optimum use of the hatchery unit. 
The very idea to introduce trout farming/culture in Mechukha was to provide self-sustenance opportunity to the people. Trout being a high valued fish in the international market will surely help our fish farmers to improve their economy, the Speaker said. 
"Be the producers rather than consumers," the Speaker suggested the farmers while exhorting them to grow trout on commercial scale so that they can become self reliant. 
In this regard, he advised the concerned fishery department to identify market linkage and initiate necessary steps to help the fish farmers to start business as and when the production starts in large scale.
Further, the Speaker also assured to extend all possible help from his side to the department and fish farmers for making the project successful.
Earlier, DFDO briefed the gathering about the hatchery and informed that currently it has the capacity of producing 7 lakh fingerlings which will be increased to 10 lakh in coming days. 
Once the production is started, fish farmers can collect fingerlings for their pond and raceway.
ZPC, DC and ADC also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the initiative. They exuded hope that the initiative will benefit the fish farmers of the district.
