ITANAGAR, May 25:The members of the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society, by an e-mail to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, submitted a memorandum requesting him to name the newly constructed Dhola – Sadiya Bridge after Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.

In its memorandum the society informed the Prime Minister that Sadiya, which was an Administrative Headquarters of the then NEFA prior to the devastation by the great earthquake of 1950 was the birthplace of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. Although at present, Sadiya falls under Assam, the birthplace of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika is said to be at Bolung Village of the Lower Dibang Valley District of Arunachal Pradesh. Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, during his life time worked relentlessly for unity and integrity for all caste, creed and religion through his songs and music. So it is the dream of the people of the state of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam that the bridge constructed at Sadiya be named after him.

It is to be mentioned here that the statue of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, being erected at Bolung Village by the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society, for which Government of Arunachal Pradesh had gracefully provided fund, will be passing through the Dhola – Sadiya Bridge on the date of the inauguration of the said bridge on way from Guwahati to Bolung Village. The statue will be inaugurated either on the birthday of Late Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on 8th September, 2017 or on his death anniversary on 5th November, 2017. The statue is sculpted by the great sculptor of Assam, Biren Sinha, famous for the sculpture of Lachit Borphukan, installed in the midst of the Brahmaputra River at Guwahati.
