ITANAGAR, Jul 4: Social activist Payi Gyadi has lodged a First Information Report (FIR) with the Special Investigation Cell, calling for an immediate inquiry into alleged corruption and misappropriation of funds at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Jote, Arunachal Pradesh. The FIR raises concerns about criminal conspiracies and fraud in relation to the infrastructure development of the institute, funded by the Ministry of Education.
According to Gyadi's complaint, during a visit by the Chief Minister to the NIT campus, it was revealed that initially, Rs. 800 Crore was allocated for the construction, which was later revised to Rs. 868.36 Crore. There are now suspicions regarding the proper utilization of these funds and alleged collusive activities between officials and private entities involved in the execution of the infrastructure projects.
To shed light on the matter, Payi Gyadi conducted a personal visit to the NIT Jote campus on June 15 last. During the visit, alarming issues came to light, including the lack of well-equipped practical laboratories for technology-based programs and the poor conditions of living quarters and hostels. Several structures were found to be incomplete or in a state of disrepair, raising doubts about the integrity of the construction process.
Gyadi's complaint further alleges that the deteriorating conditions at the institute have led to the departure of highly qualified teachers, resulting in a significant impact on the quality of education and the overall academic environment.
Urging a thorough investigation into the alleged fraud and corruption, Gyadi called for strict actions against all involved parties. The activist demands that the responsible company be blacklisted and hold officials implicated in fraudulent practices accountable for their actions.
It is crucial to take immediate measures to rectify the situation, safeguard the interests of the tribal state, and prevent any further misuse of central government funds. Gyadi emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation, encompassing all past and present directors and officials associated with NIT Jote, to ensure transparency and accountability.
In response to the complaint, the Special Investigation Cell has acknowledged its seriousness and assured a meticulous investigation to determine the truth behind the allegations. The findings of this investigation will provide clarity on the extent of corruption and facilitate the implementation of necessary measures to rectify the situation promptly, stated Gyadi.
