Roing, Mar 1: A three days skill development training programme on Fish Breeding and Hatchery Management commenced from February 28 to March 2 next to empower the farmers of Arunachal Pradesh by imparting practical knowledge and skills, by the Kolkata Centre of ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK),Balek, Roing.
A total of 20 fish farmers actively participated and received inputs for fish farming, such as water testing kits and study materials from the organizers. The farmers were thankful for the skill development and receipt of aquaculture inputs which will  help in the improvement of fish production in the district and the state.
Progressive fish farmer and state awardee, Yibuk (Mobi)village Jatan Pulu, shared his experiences on traditional fish farming and urged the participant farmers to adopt scientific fish farming practices to enhance productivity and improve their livelihood.
ICAR-CIFE Scientist Dr. Dilip Kumar Singh educated the farmers about composite fish culture, integrated fish farming, fish hatchery operation, fish breeding and nursery management, broodstock nutrition, the importance of live food in the nursery, and water quality & fish health management etc.
Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, Balek Dr. Deepanjali Deori expressed that the training would immensely benefit fish farmers to improve their livelihood by adopting skills in fish hatchery operation to improve fish production.
SMS(Horticulture) KVK, Balek Vijay Krishna Pandey said that the training would immensely benefit farmers who lack knowledge on scientific fish farming to improve their livelihood by adopting modern methods to improve fish production.
Jimmy Mize, Subject Matter Specialist (Fishery Science) practically demonstrated the preparation of fish feed and analysis of water quality parameters and recommended the application of agricultural lime to reclaim the acidic soil and water in fish pond and also briefed about various activities and services of KVK for the benefit of farmers.
