ITANAGAR, Aug 11: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Bosiram Siram accused the ruling party of evading accountability and failing the people of Arunachal Pradesh.
“Why is the BJP running away from answering questions about its governance in Arunachal Pradesh?” Siram questioned  in a press statement . “Instead of engaging with the burning concerns raised by the new Congress team, they are running away from real problems that directly affect the people.”
Siram took direct aim at the BJP’s handling of national security, particularly Chinese incursions into Arunachal Pradesh. He questioned the BJP's denial of such incursions despite independent satellite imagery, media reports, and local testimonies confirming them.
“National security is not a political game. The BJP has a duty to protect Arunachal’s borders and tell people the truth,” Siram asserted. “Instead, the BJP leadership has shamelessly shifted responsibility to the Centre, washing its hands of the matter.”
He asked why the promised infrastructure and security measures along the sensitive border areas remain unfulfilled, even as the BJP boasts of “zero tolerance” on sovereignty issues.
Refuting BJP's claims that the Congress is anti-development, Siram clarified that the party supports people-centric progress — not forced displacement and environmental degradation.
“We are pro-people, not anti-development. Any development project that proceeds without the consent of affected communities is destruction, not progress. This is tyranny and loot in the name of governance,” he said.
The Congress leader raised serious concerns over the planned Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP) dam project, which he said will submerge vast areas and displace indigenous tribal communities.
“Why is the BJP proceeding without the free, prior, and informed consent of the people who will be affected? And why are paramilitary forces being deployed in the area just to conduct the Preliminary Feasibility Report (PFR)? Is this not dictatorial?” he questioned.
Highlighting a long-pending demand, Siram also challenged the BJP on its failure to amend Article 371(H) to grant greater legislative autonomy to Arunachal Pradesh.
“Why has the BJP not initiated steps to amend Article 371(H)? Will they commit to introducing and supporting such an amendment in Parliament during their current term — yes or no?” he asked.
The APCC President emphasized that land, forest, and water — Jal, Jungle, and Zameen — are the lifelines of indigenous communities and must be protected by law.
Siram ended with a sharp reminder that Arunachal Pradesh deserves a responsible and transparent government.
“The BJP should stop behaving like an opposition party. It is in power, and it must take ownership, find solutions, and speak the truth to the people.”
He reiterated that the Congress party will continue to be the voice of the people and will “relentlessly pursue solutions to the State’s bleeding-point issues.”
