ITANAGAR, Jan 5: In continuation of the Union Health Ministry mandated first mock drill for COVID vaccination that was organised in the ICR on January 2 last, a similar exercise was organized today in all the 25 districts of the state.
The activity was undertaken in three session sites namely the District Hospitals, Community Health Centres and Primary Health Centres of the districts. A total of 75 sessions were conducted and 1881 were vaccinated in the mock drill. The exercise went on smoothly as per protocols and operational guidelines in all the identified health facilities. State Immunization Officer Dr D Padung monitored all the sessions and carried out handholding sessions at PHC Chiputa and CHC Doimukh in Papum Pare district.
The exercise involved identification of beneficiaries, vaccination teams, session site, vaccine and logistic arrangements. The mock exercise included a vaccination team of five members and 25 healthcare workers as dummy beneficiaries in each session site.
Every session had designated waiting rooms, vaccination rooms and observation rooms. The beneficiaries were allowed to enter the waiting rooms only after cross checking of details by a security person. The exercise was a big success and it is expected to serve as a trailer for the real COVID vaccination sessions. More training will be also imparted to achieve quality implementation of the COVID-19 vaccination in the state and strict preparedness for its successful execution has been made mandatory by the State Health Department.
As per the COVID vaccination priority set by the Central government, the first phase will be for healthcare workers and subsequently in the second phase, frontline workers comprising  army,  central police forces, state police force including prisoners and municipality workers will be covered. The vaccination  drive will be launched across the state after receipt of the COVID-19 vaccines  from the Centre.
Following the Centre’s initiative in carrying out dry runs for the upcoming COVID-19 vaccination programme across country, the State Health Department with the mission to make the vaccination teams and programme managers well prepared, acquainted, motivated and confident has conducted several rounds of trainings, review meetings and analyses of the current state of readiness.
