KIMIN, Oct 16: Hundreds of women from various Self Help Groups today resorted to protest against the inordinate delay over construction of road by Border Roads Organization (BRO) here in Papum Pare district.
The protesters were expressing their  resentments over the delay of the 20 km road from Kimin to Potin.“The   construction of 20 km stretch road was started in 2012 and the target for completion was 2017, but BRO is yet to complete even  50% of the road,”  said  Phil Tadap, a local denizen and one of the protesters. Besides formation cutting, two minor bridges, at least 4 culverts, drains and a road stretch of at least 8 km are still pending for blacktopping, said Tadap.  He also added the said road is also strategically important because of its use by the military.
Responding to the protest by the SHG members, Colonel BRO-528 (SS&TC) VS Bhandari informed the agitators that all pending works from Kimin to Potin will be completed within March 31, 2020. “We are giving our best and even our forces are working day and night in the said stretch of road. If there are no weather issues, we will complete it by March next,” he asserted. While speaking on quality, Colonel reiterated that BRO never compromises with quality and the roads made by them are ‘All Weather Roads’.
Members from at least 20 SHGs participated in the protest march that started from Kimin market to the office of the BRO-HQ 528 SS &TC-GREEF.
