ITANAGAR, Mar 19: In a major setback to the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls, two ministers of the BJP government, 6 sitting legislators and the party’s General Secretary joined the Conrad Sangma led National Peoples’ Party (NPP) on Tuesday evening.
Ministers Kumar Waii and Jarkar Gamlin along with MLAs Pani Taram, Tapak Taku, Paknga Bage, Kardo Nyigyor, Wanglin Lowangdong, Thangwang Wangham, ex MLA Tsering Gyurme and others along with party General Secretary Jarpum Gamlin joined the NPP in presence of the National general secretary NPP, Thomas Sangma in Itanagar.
Slamming the BJP high command, former Home Minister Kumar Waii said "There is no ideology in the BJP; they denied party tickets to sitting MLAs of their own party and issued the same to the new comers who have no contribution to the party."
Arunachal Pradesh is a peace loving state and a secular state , but the BJP has its own agenda of communalism and is anti- secular, alleged Waii. . If BJP would have been right I would have been still in the party.
The ideology of the party which states country first, then state and individual, but when we see the ticket distribution it clearly shows family politics, added the former Home MInister.
"Our aim is not only to fight election but to form absolute majority government," he added.
While responding to query over his resignation and joining NPP, Jarpum Gamlin said "I have been associated with party for last many years with dedication and commitment but despite assurance, the BJP took a u-turn in the last moment. But as I have already declared my decision to fight in this assembly election, I resigned from the party for my people," he added.
He said there is no better regional party than NPP, which has pan Northeast reach and is working for the upliftment of the Northeast people.
Further, welcoming the new members, Party General Secretary Thomas Sangma said the NPP is confident to win more than 30 seats as well to form government in the state. He also informed that NPP will issue the list of 30 MLA candidates on Wednesday.
While clarifying on the party ideology, state NPP spokesperson Mutchu Mithi informed that there party will fight the election on its own and has no plan for pre-poll alliance with any party; however they are ready for post –poll if needed.
In Arunachal Pradesh, Lok Sabha polls and state legislative assembly polls are being held simultaneously on April 11.
