PASIGHAT, Feb 23: A seminar on TDS and TCS awareness programme was organized for all DDOs (Drawing and Disbursing Officers), Accounts and Treasury Officers of East Siang district today. Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS) Deepak Singh and Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax MS Bordoloi (TDS) from Guwahati, Assam and Income Tax Officer (TDS) from Dibrugarh, Assam imparted the training on TDS & TCS and highlighted the role of DDOs and explained the workflow of deductions methodology.
ADC (HQ) Tatdo Borang presided over the seminar and all DDOs and officers and officials of various departments of East Siang dealing accounts related issues, took part in the seminar to enhance their knowledge on Tax Deduction at Source (TDS).
In their deliberation, the Income Tax officers emphasized on the need to maintain proper record of returns filed, challans in lieu of outstanding TDS demands and immediate remedial action to be taken to resolve the same. The trio reiterated responsibilities of DDOs to deduct TDS and timely deposit the same and filing of returns and consequences in the form of penalties for non-compliance of provisions of income tax. They also updated the audience regarding technical aspects of TDS matters, traces online features which comprise returns status, outstanding demand and other defaults and their rectification procedure. The participants were also made aware of the need to deduct TDS on salary every month on proportionate basis, instead of postponing tax liability to year end.
