ITANAGAR, Mar 10: The two-day state level seminar on ‘Customary Practices, Property Rights of Women and Girl Child in context of Arunachal Pradesh’ organised by Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) in collaboration with Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) concluded today here at the capital’s DK Convention Hall.
Nearly 300 participants comprising advocates, CBOs, NGOs, Arunachal Indigenous Tribes Forum, Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society, GBs, students and faculty from Arunachal Law Academy, Himalayan University, Rajiv Gandhi University, student unions and police personnel attended the seminar.  Member, APSCW Techi Hunmai (Doyom), its Chairperson Radhilu Chai (Techi) addressed the event. The Commission’s Chairperson highlighted the challenges faced by women in Arunachal Pradesh such as polygamy, gender inequality etc. and the role of GBs in ensuring women empowerment. Member Secretary, APSLSA Jaweplu Chai spoke on the working of Legal Services Authorities in the state and Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme, 2011 etc. Professor, Rajiv Gandhi University Dr. Vandhana Upadhyay, Principal, Doimukh College Dr. Taw Azu as Resource Persons spoke on the seminar’s topic. Secretary, Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society Kani Nada Maling highlighted the working of the Society and the changes it brought for the betterment of the state’s women. Former Chairperson, APSCW Jarjum Ete spoke on the need for strengthening the state’s traditional institutions to empower women and requested the CBOs to include women in its decision-making structure and not just in women's wings. 
On the second day of the seminar, Advocate, Gauhati High Court, Itanagar Permanent Bench Jumgam Jini highlighted the Mizo Marriage, Divorce and Inheritance of Property Act, 2014. RGU Professor Dr. Nabam Naka Hina gave a presentation on ‘Social Perspective: Customary practices and Property Rights in Arunachal Pradesh’.
Assistant Professor, RGU Dr. Radhe Amung, Assistant Professor, Jarbom Gamlin Government Law College Dr. Nani Mamung were the other speakers on the concluding day.
