NAHARLAGUN, Jul 17:

The Arunachal Pradesh Cooperative Training Centre is conducting a three-day short term course on Banking and credit business from July 16-18 attended by members and staff of various Thrift & Credit Cooperative Societies and Large Area Multipurpose Societies (LAMPS). A total of 38 participants from across the state are taking part in the programme.

This the second such training conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh Cooperative Training Centre under the incumbent Principal, Kenbi Riba.

On Thursday, Secretary, Cooperation Dr. Sonal Swaroop, interacted with the participants and exhorted the societies to improve their business for the welfare of its members and the general public. She also encouraged members to save regularly, creating a fund that can be loaned out at reasonable interest rates.

“Credit and thrift society must expand their base; Trust of villagers in them and

their outreach to villagers is crucial. Arunachal has a legacy of Cooperation and it is the way forward if we need to progress as a society,” she said.

Dr Swaroop also called upon the societies to learn fiscal prudence, build capacity with latest techniques, products and extend them to people in villages.

“Managing people’s savings and extending credit facilities at low interest in unbanned areas, far flung remote border areas is a win-win situation,” she added.

Secretary Cooperation also briefed about the necessary plan and program and several steps to strengthen the Cooperative Societies in the state in near future along the line of the Ministry of Cooperation, Govt. of India.

She was accompanied by Pelbang Tayeng, Joint RCS and Techi Kaku, DRCS, Chief Executive Officer, APSCU.

 Sushil Sarker, Faculty, Manpower Development and Management Institute (MDMI), Guwahati, Nabam Amzi, Chairperson, Nefa Thrift and Credit Coop. Society, Nirjuli, Kandpal Suresh, Managing Director, Itanagar Urban Thrift and Credit Cooperative Society, Gyati Kobing, DRCS, RCS Office, Naharlagun are facilitating the programme as Resource Persons.
