Changlang, Dec 26: In a joint operation security forces apprehended two active NSCN (IM) cadres involved in extortion activities in the Rima area of Changlang district. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the operation was carried out by 11 PARA (Special Forces), 10 Assam Rifles, and Changlang Police, under the command of Sub Mahesh Singh from 11 PARA (SF).
The operation, launched at 3:00 AM, targeted individuals engaged in extorting money from local businessmen and shopkeepers. The security forces successfully apprehended two insurgents identified as SS Lt. Roney Rai alias Tutu, a 31-year-old resident of Jairampur in Changlang, and SS Sgt Maj. Anong Singpho, a 30-year-old resident of Pengri in Tinsukia, Assam.
During the operation, the forces seized a .32 pistol with six rounds of ammunition, a traditional Nagamese sickle (Dah), a wallet, a PAN card, a Tecno mobile phone, and a SIM card.
This successful operation underscores the unwavering commitment of the Changlang Police and security forces to maintaining peace and security in the region. By targeting extortion networks, authorities aim to disrupt the financial and operational strength of insurgent groups operating in the area.
The apprehended individuals and seized items have been handed over to the Changlang Police for further investigation,stated a release.
