KHONSA, Jul 10: The Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles conducted a security co-ordination meet at Battalion Headquarters, today.
Around 150 people, which included village leaders from 38 villages, shopkeepers, business owners, transport and taxi owners attended the meeting. Officials from Tirap Police were also present.
Colonel Aman Ahluwalia, SM, Commandant of Khonsa Battalion while chairing the meeting apprised about the general situation in Tirap District. The concerns of the local village leaders and business community regarding unlawful activities of the insurgents including extortion, kidnapping, insurgent recruitment & other nefarious activities,  were addressed. The Commandant urged for civil cooperation with security forces to maintain peace and security in the area of responsibility and explained the important role played by key village appointments as custodians of peace and tranquility in their villages. The attendees were made to understand the apparatus in place to provide them holistic security by the security forces.

He highlighted the importance of a progressive community in denying insurgents space to carry out anti-national activities. He exhorted the villagers to stand against drugs and violence and ensure correct guidance is provided to the youth of their villages to become better citizens. He also highlighted various development activities carried out in the region under the military civic action schemes of Assam Rifles, that have benefitted the locals.
