ITANAGAR, Feb 22: The Standing Delimitation Committee (SDC) member secretary Dr. Nani Tamang Jose said that the committee under the aegis of Tanii Supun Dukun (TSD) will organize a peaceful democratic rally demanding the state government to exercise  delimitation in the state. 
The rally will start from Mahatma Gandhi Government School (MHGS) to Padi Yubey Outdoor Stadium on Friday next.
Addressing the media persons at the press club here today, Dr. Jose said that the demand for delimitation is the constitutional right of the public. The committee is not demanding special rights or back door schemes. Numerous appeals and representations to the state and central government were submitted regarding the matter before but yet there is no response to it.
He also informed that the SDC is working in support of the Northeast Delimitation Committee, which comprises of Manipur, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh. While the state of Assam is enacting the delimitation in some constituencies of few districts, Arunachal Pradesh is yet to press the green signal.  
Dr. Jose also said that the delimitation is done according to the population census so that equal and proportionate representative is being provided to the public. The last delimitation was executed in the state in the year 1987.
“After decades, in 2008, under the chairmanship of Kuldeep Singh, the second delimitation was conducted, which was almost completed. However, the state government requested the central government to defer the report stating law & order issues,” he said.
If the delimitation was deferred due to law & order issues, why the state government didn’t declare presidential rule so that the process could be completed? Moreover, subsequent elections have been conducted thereafter in the state, Jose questioned.
Further asserting that for the last two decades, the state government never conducted a census of the state, SDC member Michi Tagia said according to the SC ruling, delimitation should be conducted after every ten years.
But the state government did not bother to follow the process by going against the interest of natural justice and equitable representation of people’s democratic rights, he said.   
The state government should uphold public representation for a healthy democracy in the state. Therefore, the committee urged upon the state government and the delimitation commission office in specific to carry out the delimitation procedure as per the Delimitation Act, of 2002, Tagia added.
