AALO, Jun 24: Continuing its relentless fight against drug trafficking under Operation Dawn 2.0, the Anti-Drug Squad (ADS) of West Siang Police carried out multiple coordinated raids on June 24 in and around the Pakam III area of Aalo, leading to the arrest of a suspected drug peddler and seizure of narcotics and related materials.
Acting on a credible intelligence input, the ADS team conducted surprise raids at various suspected locations. The operation was conducted under the overall supervision of the Superintendent of Police, West Siang.
During the operation, the team raided an OBT quarter and detained Bili Potom, who, during spot interrogation, confessed to being both a drug addict and a peddler, allegedly active in the trade for nearly two years. Following due legal process, Executive Magistrate-cum-Town Magistrate Jumkar Karbi was called to the spot, and a formal search was conducted in the presence of two independent witnesses.
The search led to the seizure of approximately 8.71 grams of suspected heroin contained in five tobacco containers, three syringes, and ₹13,100 in cash, believed to be proceeds from drug sales.
Shocking revelations during preliminary investigation confirmed that the accused, Bili Potom, is currently serving as an IT teacher under SSA, appointed in 2023 and posted at Government Secondary School Pakam.
A case has been registered at Aalo Police Station as C/No. 35/25 under Sections 21(b)/27 of the NDPS Act and the accused has been arrested. Sustained interrogation is underway to trace the drug supply chain and identify possible co-accused.
Commending the swift action of the ADS team, the Superintendent of Police, West Siang, reiterated the department’s unwavering commitment to root out the drug menace from the district. He also urged the general public to support the police in their mission to build a drug-free society, stated a release.
