ITANAGAR, Aug 7: The Save Arunachal Save Indigenous (SASI) has urged the state government to take swift action and introduce the 'Arunachal Pradesh Private Job Reservation Bill' in the upcoming state assembly session to address the growing unemployment crisis and protect the indigenous identity of the region.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Arunachal Press Club, Chairman SASI Romjir Rakshap said that the increasing rate of unemployment among the youth is a cause of concern and has led many from low and middle-economic backgrounds to resort to undesirable paths, such as drug addiction and criminal activities, due to the lack of employment opportunities. Some have even tragically taken their own lives, feeling like a burden to their families as they remain jobless, he added.
In light of these pressing issues, SASI submitted a representation to the state government on August 4 last, demanding the introduction and passage of the 'Arunachal Pradesh Private Job Reservation Bill' in the state assembly, said Rakshap. He further stated, the forum hopes that the Bill will serve as a significant step in providing job opportunities to local youths and contribute to their overall well-being.
Rakshap outlined the key features of the proposed bill, which include a requirement for job reservations for local candidates with a minimum monthly salary of Rs. 50,000. The reservation policy would apply to all companies, partnerships, firms, societies, trusts, or any entity employing more than 10 individuals. Additionally, the government should establish online portals to enable employers to report the number of local candidates they have employed, and strict provisions should be included to penalize non-compliance with the rule of hiring 75% local candidates in any private sector entity operating within Arunachal Pradesh.
The chairman pointed out that implementing job reservations for locals can bring several benefits, such as reducing the crime rate, curbing the excessive influx of outside workforces, and combating nepotism practices in the private sector. Rakshap also cited successful examples from states like Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, and Jharkhand, which have enacted similar laws to address the issue of unemployment and improve the quality of life for their citizens.
