PASIGHAT, Mar 9: As part of its outreach to the local populace, Spearhead Army Public School (SAPS) under the aegis of the Spearhead Division, Likabali undertook a pilot project “Vidyarthi Shashaktikaran Programme” (VSP) for grooming and preparing children from Arunachal Pradesh and Assam for selection in reputed Sainik Schools of the country.
According to Army sources, admission to Sainik Schools is highly competitive and selection is based on a difficult examination that covers range of subjects wherein students compete for limited seats in the prestigious Sainik Schools of the country. The school as part of the VSP selected many students from the under privileged sections of the society and organized classes by trained civilian instructors and officers of the Indian Army including mock tests, interview etc to prepare the pupils for the entrance examination. To ensure adequate exposure and motivation, various field visits were conducted including visit to Sainik School at Niglok in East Siang and Indian Army aviation hangers in Likabali.
Altogether seven students including five girls were qualified for the written examination. The initiative with the ethos of the Indian Army of “Service Before Self” has been aiming for a larger scale of upliftment and welfare of the local population of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam besides strengthening the ties between the local populace with the Defence Forces of the country.
