Lazu, Jul 21: The Assam Rifles conducted a “Run for Fun” at Lazu town on Friday with the theme “Say No to Drugs and Yes to Life”. The  event was organised with an aim to educate the local youths  about the ill effects of consuming non prescribed drugs while simultaneously promoting the benefits of leading a healthy lifestyle.
The 2.5 km run saw enthusiastic participation with over two hundred people taking part. A Assam Rifles officer said that Lazu has historically been one of the areas in Tirap district, that has remained most affected by drugs and narco-terrorism. In times when the youth is being misguided towards procurement and consumption of illicit drugs, such events help spread awareness about these malpractices and significantly curtail them. Such events not only educate the youth but also help contain terrorism that is being fueled by the money generated from trade of drugs.
