Yingkiong, Sep 21: The Upper Siang district administration disbursed relief amount received through various corners to 48 affected persons of the devastating fire accident at Upper Market in Yingkiong which occurred on April 21, earlier this year.
The 48 affected include 10 house and building owners and 38 shop owners and were paid respectively  through Direct Benefit Transfer ( DBT)  in two phases.
After the unfortunate incident, a huge number of people wanted to donate for the welfare of the fire victims. The saving bank account (40178751592) with the name of DC & SP Yingkiong which had an initial balance of Rs.15,392 was utilized to deposit the donation amount. Thus, an amount of Rs. 1,03,40,765/- (Rupees One Crore three lakhs forty thousand seven hundred sixty-five only) was received through online and off-line mode till 18th May 2022.
To ensure that the disbursement is done in a fair and transparent manner, the Deputy Commisioner Shashvat Saurabh, constituted a committee consisting of 11 members which included government officials, public leaders, eminent personalities of the township, representatives from the Market welfare association, representatives on behalf of the victim shopkeepers (but who were not victim themselves).
First phase the disbursement was done to the bank account of each victim on 24th May 2022 via Direct Beneficiary Transfer mode through the SBI, Yingkiong.
However, the donations kept pouring in and hence, a second phase for the disbursement of the donations was done on 16th September wherein an amount of Rs.16,68,711(Rupees Sixteen lakhs sixty-eight thousand seven hundred eleven only) was received in the form of donation which is also inclusive of an amount of Rs. 20,736 which was the interest acquired in the saving bank account by the huge donated amount received in it.
In the meantime, the District Administration extended profound gratitude all the donors who came in large numbers and donated generously in the form of cash and kind for the cause. An amount of Rs. 1,20,09,476 (One crore twenty lakhs nine thousand four hundred seventy-six only) received in the form of donation for fire victims was touching and encouraging. It has helped provide sufficient assistance to all the victims. It is also worth mentioning that, many food items, clothes, toiletries etc were also donated in kind by various individuals, organisations, NGOs, CBOs etc. which helped in smooth functioning of the Relief Camp.
