ITANAGAR, Sep 10: Governor Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) in a solemn function inaugurated the General Bipin Rawat Military Garrison at Kibithu in Anjaw District today. 
The Military Garrison has been named after General Rawat, as a tribute to the First Chief of Defence Staff of Indian Armed Forces and one of the most illustrious Indian Army Generals. As a Colonel, General Rawat commanded his Battalion, the 5th battalion of the 11 Gorkha Rifles at Kibithu, the easternmost Sector along the Line of Actual Control. 
On the occasion, Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced the renaming of the Kibithu-Walong Road as ‘General Bipin Rawat Road’.
The Governor said that General Rawat was a great patriot, great strategist, a gallant soldier and an outstanding general. He expressed hope that the Garrison will reflect General Rawat’s revolutionary steps to raise the capability, credibility, fighting ability and deterrence values of the Indian Army and the strategic integration of the various arms and services of the Indian Armed Forces.
The Governor recalled his discussions with General Rawat on the issues of Arunachal Pradesh border security. He said that General Rawat was a friend of the people of Arunachal Pradesh and that he always took the best steps for supporting all welfare projects of the State.
The Governor said that General Rawat as CDS had endorsed waiving off a very large sum of dues of the State with Indian Air Forces which was long pending due to bureaucratic red-tape.
The Governor expressed his hope that General Rawat’s innovative concept of ‘Integrated Battle Groups’ and ‘Theatre Command’ will go a long way in strengthening the Indian Armed Forces fighting capability. 
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Pema Khandu recalled the successful command of General Rawat as Colonel at Kibuthu. He informed that the State Government has earmarked Rs. 10 cr for making the General Bipin Rawat Military Garrison as the pride in the state so that it presents an inspiration for the Arunachali youths. He also informed that border villages viz, Kibithu, Kaho and Wusai will be developed as Model villages.
Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly PD Sona, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) Tapir Gao, local MLA Dasanglu Pul, former Eastern Army Commander Lt. Gen Anil Chauhan and daughter of General Rawat, Tarini Rawat were also present amongst others.
