Need for special schools in Arunachal stressed 

 

ITANAGAR, Dec 3: The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was observed today across the state marked by various programmes to raise awareness about people with disabilities.
The Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) today, organized a legal awareness programme for the members of the Arunachal Pradesh Disabled Sports Association (APDSA) at Itanagar.
“People with disability are entitled to the same rights and opportunities as everyone else, but unfortunately their plight is often ignored by society in general. So it is important that such days are observed for creating awareness about the challenges and hindrances faced by the differently abled community,” said Yomge Ado, Member Secretary, APSLSA while addressing the participants.
International Day of Persons with Disabilities is celebrated every year on December 3rd with a bid to promote a more inclusive and accessible world for the differently-abled persons and to raise awareness for their rights – including their right to free and competent Justice. Doing its part for the cause, the State Legal Services Authority on the occasion had partnered with APDSA to educate and apprise the 16 members of the Association present on various important NALSA mandated schemes and regulations like the Free and Competent Legal Services, which guarantees them equal Access to Justice, the Rights of Persons with Disability Act, 2016, Fundamental Rights and Duties, Women’s Rights etc. – all of which were covered by Legal Aid Counsels of APSLSA including Adv. Nani Modi, Retainer Lawyer, Adv. Raknu Konya, Adv. Geba Lomi and Adv. Kalung Tatung.
APDSA General Secretary, Rojot Gadok also spoke on the occasion as he drew attention of the forum towards lack of understanding, accessibility to public spaces and limitation of opportunities that people with disabilities face every day. He further appealed to create awareness among the masses about the challenges faced by the disabled community in the state.
APDSA is one of the few non- profit organizations in the city working towards empowering the Disabled Community by engaging and encouraging them for active participation in the field of Sports.
Ayang Multipurpose Co-Operative Society in association with K Blooming- an early intervention and learning centre organised a special program which was graced by the Deputy Commissioner Capital Itanagar Talo Potom as the Chief Guest.
Appreciating the Society and the learning centre for their efforts to provide a conducive atmosphere to the children to help them grow and gain knowledge, the DC also urged the parents to come forward for early diagnosis of their kids through proper assessment and early intervention so that they become capable to attend normal school. 
Since for many kids, these disabilities remain for lifetime, so there is an ardent need for special schools in Arunachal Pradesh and for which the DC assured to extend every possible help from the District Administration’s side.    
Kaman Pertin Secretary of AMCS thanked the DC while stressing that his kind gesture has really brought hope for many such parents of special kids who are finding it difficult to enrol their kids in normal schools due to lack of special educators in them. She informed that the Center had started in November 2020 and has a total of 40 students currently and all the teachers and staffers are specially trained to handle special children. 
Also, the centre is now focussed on opening a Multi disability inclusive school, informed Pertin.
Other highlights of the program was special presentation by National Institute of Locomotor Disabilities(NILD) Naharlagun branch.
TEZU: The celebrations started with prabhat ferry in the morning where students from different schools participated. Later at the programme held at BRC hall Tezu, 15 Children with Special Needs (CWSN) from different schools in Lohit District participated along with parents, teachers and other students.
To mark the occasion many events like drawing and painting and singing competition were held for CWSN and the winners felicitated.
