RONO HILLS, Jul 26: The much anticipated entrance test of Rajiv Gandhi University, which will run for a week, the RGUCET (Rajiv Gandhi University Common Entrance Test-2017) started today with two Departments conducting the entrance in two shifts. A total of 70 candidates out of 108 shortlisted ones were seen vying for the coveted 30 seats for the MA in Mass Communication today in the morning session, while for the 40 seats in MBA course a total of 148 candidates out of 181 shortlisted ones were seen attempting the entrance being conducted at the department of Management in the afternoon session.

The university this year has introduced admissions through Entrance mode excluding few programmes such as B.Ed., BCA, few Diploma and certificate courses.  

The RGU’s Joint Registrar (Academic & Conference) Dr. David Pertin who is also the Convenor of RGUCET Coordination committee expressed satisfaction at the arrangements after visiting the entrance venues at the departments of Mass Communication and Management today.

This year approximately 9400 odd applicants applied through offline and online modes for 1317 declared seats in various PG, UG, professional, PG Diploma, Diploma and certificate programmes being offered by 26 departments, of which 1881 candidates applied on online mode from across the country. The entrance mode is expected to select the best of candidates irrespective of their scores in qualifying degrees and is perceived as a better alternative to the merit based admission system prevalent till last academic session in the university. The University is credited with successfully conducting RGUMPET since the last couple of years for admissions to MPhil and PhD research programmes.
