DOIMUKH,  Dec 29: Arunachal's lone central university, Rajiv Gandhi University, is all set to implement the academic bank of credits (ABC), which is a digital storehouse that contains the information of the credits earned by individual students throughout their learning journey in academic programmes in higher education.
As the academic bank of credits (ABC) is an integral part of the higher educational structure being implemented under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked various universities to register with the ABC and monitor the development and operationalisation of the programme at the university level.
Attending a meeting with the Chairman of the UGC Prof. Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar virtually, the Vice-Chancellor of RGU Prof. Saket Kushwaha said that the university will constitute a task force for the same which will be headed by a senior level officer of the university with members drawn from amongst the officers and faculty members who have the experience of dealing with admission, registration and examination matters. The VC opined that the academic bank of credits will be a game-changer in transforming Indian education to a great extent. 
The UGC expects a positive impact that will be brought via the practice of the ABC in the upcoming years. HEIs who participate in the scheme will be highly benefited due to the smooth management of credits. The inter-disciplinary & multi-disciplinary approach is the need of the hour. With the ABC, RGU will be able to help students learn subjects of their choice and become “skill-oriented” graduates and it will be a new leap in the academic world, the VC said.
In the sidelines of the meeting, Prof. Tomo Riba, Vice-Chancellor in-charge of RGU said that, RGU will start the assigned works on priority basis and advocated that the ABC will help the university to manage & check the credits earned by students, with the objectives to promote student-centric education, to focus on learner-friendly teaching approaches, to implement an interdisciplinary approach, to allow students to learn the best courses of their interest and to enable students to learn at their own pace.
