Rono Hills, Jun 14: Rajiv Gandhi University, Doimukh celebrated World Blood Donor Day today by pledging for blood donation and free blood group testing program.
Prof. Saket Kushwaha Vice Chancellor of the University encouraged each and every individual to voluntarily take part in blood donation drive whenever and wherever organized.
Dr. Akin Tana Tara, Senior Medical Officer of the University’s Health Unit informed that there is tremendous scarcity of blood and blood products in India. Every Year only 70-75%% of the required blood is available which means that around 25-30% scarcity is there. He also gave the detail when, why blood donation is important and in which disease conditions blood is required. 
The medical unit of the university will be making a blood group registry, from all the tests that will be done during the program will be registered along with the blood group, name, address, sex and also contact numbers. Dr. Akin also informed that the health unit will keep updating the registry from the tests which will be done in the normal OPD days. The Unit is determined to establish a strong registry so that, whenever somebody needs blood in any emergency, those individuals who are registered can be contacted for urgent blood requirements. More than 40 participants have tested and registered for the blood donor’s registry during the event.
