RONO HILLS, Nov 4: An Orientation cum Training Programme on “Community Radio Broadcast & Disability- Related Information” was organized at mini auditorium, Rajiv Gandhi University. The programme was conducted by Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (Divyangjan) AYJNISH (D) Mumbai in collaboration with Community Radio Association of India (CRA) and Department of Mass Communication, RGU for community radio professionals, Mass Communication professionals and students at Rajiv Gandhi University.
AYJNISH (D), Mumbai in collaboration with Community Radio Association (CRA) of India along with various universities/ institutions and departments of Communication and Journalism, has envisaged conducting an orientation cum training program on Community Radio Broadcast & Disability -Related Information in various parts of the country to involve the Community Radio Stations to evolve and design a strategy to reach the rural population. This will not only facilitate the reach of information about disabilities, facilities and schemes of Govt. of India but will also enable community radio initiatives towards implementation of accessibility.
Educators, community radio practitioners from states of Manipur, Assam, Sikkim, Maharashtra are among others attended the programme and shared their thoughts on community radio broadcast, digital media and disability communication.
The inaugural session was attended by the Vice Chancellor of RGU Prof. Saket Kushwaha, RGU Registrar N.T Rikam, Prof. Uttam Pegu the Head of the department of Mass Communication, Dean faculty of Information Technology Prof. Kh Kabi RGU, Guest of Honour Director AYJNISHD (D) Mumbai, Dr. P.J. Matthew Martin including faculty and students from Mass Communication Departments along with educators from various states. 
Kushwaha, in his presidential speech talked about how emphasis on community radio in rural setting can help in the advancement of developments in a society. He talked about the advantage of radio and the credibility of information disseminated by the medium. He called upon the community radio stations to make programme for social change and development specially for the unprivileged so that development can happen at par with everyone.
Registrar of the university Dr. N.T. Rikam emphasizing on the state of Arunachal Pradesh said that language is a powerful tool in information flow, therefore community radio should include locals’ dialects in the region to have a better connection and communication with the people residing in every nook and corner of the state.
A radio jingle on Disability Information Line by AYJNISHD (D) and National Anthem in Universal Design were presented during the inaugural event.
An Open discussions and Q&A session was held after the educators presented their topics.
