Doimukh, Jun 29: The Rajiv Gandhi University administration organized a felicitation cum interaction programme for the NSS volunteers from RGU and its affiliated colleges who participated in the recently concluded 5-day long North-East Youth Festival at North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong campus, Meghalaya from June 19-23. 
The Vice-Chancellor of RGU, Prof. Saket Kushwaha while congratulating the participants asked them to continue focus on serving the nation and assured to provide more avenues and opportunities to the volunteers. He also announced that joining NSS unit shall be made compulsory for all students who take admission in RGU from the ensuing academic session. 
The Registrar Dr. NT Rikam briefed about the history and objectives of NSS formation and encouraged the volunteers to remain alert and ready to volunteer in any demanding situation for the cause of the citizens of the country. Finance Officer of RGU Prof. Otem Padung stressed on the need to utilize the energy potential in youths of the nation into the right direction by imbibing positive thinking and keeping ones perspective crystal clear without any blemish. 
The Joint Registrar of RGU Dr. David Pertin in his speech emphasized on the importance of caring oneself first to care for others on priority in the time of need and optimize on using the NSS unit as a platform to bloom and shine for the institution, society and the country in general while quoting the verse from the NSS song “Swayam sajein-Vasundhara sanwar den”.
 The NSS officer of RGU, Gomar Basar, while informing that the NSS festival at Shillong was conducted in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of National Service Scheme (NER),Guwahati and Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, New Delhi with an apt motto titled "Celebrate Bonding”, thanked the university authority for always supporting the cause and efforts of NSS cell. The certificates, memento and souvenirs were formally given away to the volunteers by the dignitaries after the felicitation programme which was followed by an interactive session.
A post graduate student pursuing MA in Mass Communication Raja Bose from the NSS unit of RGU led the team Arunachal Pradesh NSS team comprising of 32 volunteers from NSS units of RGU, Dera Natung Govt. College, Itanagar, Wangcha Rajkumar Govt. College, Deomali and Vivekananda Kendra College of Teacher Education, Nirjuli. The volunteers from the 7 states out of eight excluding the state of Manipur got the chance to narrate, depict and present their roles and activities as NSS volunteers covering their environments, Topography, Flora-Fauna, 
Cultural heritage, Demography, importance of Yoga protocols, Government programmes and schemes, etc.
In YUVA SAMVAD-INDIA@2047 competition, Bomdar Dirchi, a volunteer from RGU bagged the 1st prize, while in a local Khasi sports competition for girls called Mawpoints, the Arunachal Pradesh NSS Cell team led by Yani Mosu from RGU clinched the 2nd prize. Apart from these, the volunteers were taught self defense classes (Karate) besides site seeing programmes to places of tourists interests like Sohra, Nohkhalikai falls, 7 sister falls, etc. followed by electrifying performances by The Colours rock band, were the highlights of the festival. The festival also marked a prayer for peace in Manipur session which was attended by around 300 volunteers from the region.
