RONI HILLS, Aug 29: A one day orientation was organised for the newly admitted students of master’s in mass communication of Rajiv Gandhi University. An orientation day lecture was delivered by Kenter Joya Riba who is one of the well known journalists of the state and the Managing editor of Eastern Sentinel.
Delivering the orientation day lecture on the topic “New media in Arunachal Pradesh”,  Riba dwelt at length about the changing scenario of the media in the state. She opined that as the world is progressing in the digital medium, it's important to value the ethics of journalism which is quite lacking in the state media today. She said that the formal education of Journalism students who are being trained in the field can bring a positive change in the way media functions. She also laid emphasis on how the youth particularly the students of Mass Communication can use social media as a tool in reaching out to larger audience to disseminate information relating to the development of the state.
An open house on the theme and job prospects in journalism was also discussed during the orientation. Wide arrays of questions were answered relating to freedom of the press, media bias, dissemination of fake news, balance and objectivity in reporting.
Prof. Uttam Kr. Pegu, Head of the department welcoming the new batch encouraged the students to explore jobs prospects in mass communication in various fields such as Public Relations, Newspaper organisation and Television production House.
Prof. Kh. Kabi, the Dean of Information Technology while interacting with the students spoke on the values of traditional media which need to be upheld by the new media. 
Dr. Sunil Koijam, Assistant professor of the Department proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was also attended by third semester students in large numbers.
