ZIRO,  Jun 28: A tortoise recently rescued from the Yazali has turned out be a rare species-- Manouria Impressa (Impressed Tortoise). Another specimen was also rescued from the same. Both were rescued and in safe custody of RFO Bunty Tao. Significantly, this is the first time that the species has been discovered in the state and in the country.  DFO Koj Rinya, Hapoli Forest Division, informed that as per directions issued by the Chief Wildlife Warden, Dr.Bipin Behari, the pair of tortoises, a male and a female, was handed over on June 27, in good healthy condition to Dr Tadap Sorang, Veterinary Officer of the Itanagar Biological Park (Zoo), where they will be kept under observation and care of the authorities. Arrangements are being made to create conditions closest to that of their natural habitat, under the supervision of departmental herpetologist Dr. B.B Bhatt and other officials.DIPRO
