ITANAGAR, Jan 29:  Established in 1979 under the Ministry of AYUSH, the Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI) in Itanagar has been at the forefront of traditional medicine research and providing affordable healthcare services to the public.
Dr. Gurucharan Bhuyan, Assistant Director (Ay) and Head of Institute (HoI)-RARI, highlighted the institute’s two primary objectives: conducting surveys of medicinal plants and running an Outpatient Department (OPD) that caters to non-communicable diseases.
He informed that, the OPD at RARI offers free-of-cost medicines and treatment, focusing on ailments that require long-term management. Additionally, the institute provides pathological and biochemistry investigations at minimal costs, with routine tests such as Liver Function Tests, Kidney Function Tests, Blood Sugar, stool analysis, hemoglobin checks and many others are available from just 15 to 150 – significantly lower than charges at other medical facilities.
The institute is also home to an eight-acre medicinal plant garden where rare and valuable herbs are cultivated for research and therapeutic use. Furthermore, RARI conducts clinical research to advance Ayurveda-based treatment methods.
For first-time visitors, the institute charges a nominal registration fee of 10, valid for one financial year. Individuals below the poverty line (BPL) can avail themselves of services free of charge upon presenting the necessary documents, while senior citizens receive a 60% discount, added Bhuyan.
Patients with chronic illnesses can benefit from the Panchakarma Therapy Center, which offers specialized Ayurvedic treatments at minimal rates compared to other institutions.
RARI operates on all working days and remains closed on national holidays and government-declared festivals. The institute currently has a staff strength of 36, supplemented by outsourced professionals to enhance its services.
In addition to its in-house facilities, the institute actively engages in health camps and is committed to providing support to those in need. With a mission to promote Ayurveda and ensure accessible healthcare, RARI Itanagar continues to serve the community with dedication and expertise, stated Dr. Gurucharan Bhuyan.
