ITANAGAR, May 22: In a swift operation, the police today recaptured the rape accused who had escaped from custody a day earlier near Papunallah on Sunday.
The recapture comes as a relief to the authorities and the public, who had expressed deep concern over the accused's escape. The police, utilizing resources and expertise, left no stone unturned in their efforts to locate and apprehend the fugitive in the wee hours of Monday. Upon the recapture, a case has been registered against the accused under Section 224 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for "Resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension." This section pertains to the punishment for intentionally preventing or obstructing a public servant from apprehending a person who has been lawfully detained, informed SP Rohit Rajbir Singh.
Furthermore, law enforcement authorities have initiated a departmental inquiry into the incident. The focus of the inquiry is to ascertain the circumstances that led to the accused's escape and to identify any potential lapses in security and protocol. Strict action will be taken against the officials found responsible for any negligence or misconduct, ensuring accountability within the police department, the SP said.
