ITANAGAR, May 21: In a shocking incident, a rape accused managed to escape from police custody near Papu Nallah today, creating a state of panic among law enforcement authorities. The accused, absconded while being transported from Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) in Naharlagun to the Women's Police Station (WPS) in Itanagar for further processing.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred during the return journey from TRIHMS after the accused's medical examination. The police team, responsible for the safe transfer of the accused, was en route to WPS, Itanagar when the shocking escape unfolded near the Papu Nallah area.
ASP, K Sikom while confirming the incident, however, told that the identity and circumstances leading to the accused's escape remains unclear. Law enforcement agencies have launched an intensive search operation, with additional personnel and resources deployed to locate and apprehend the escapee. The immediate vicinity of Papu Nallah and surrounding areas has been cordoned off to facilitate the search operation.
