ITANAGAR, Mar 26: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC)  today observed a day-long 'satyagraha' protesting the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha after a Surat court convicted him in a 2019 defamation case.
Speaking to the media, former Chief Minister and incumbent  MLA cum President APCC, Nabam Tuki said that the Congress leader has been targetted for raising his voice against the corruption in the Bharatiya Janata Party. "This satyagrah is not just about the Congress party or Rahul Gandhi, but it is about Indian democracy; there should be equal justice for all," he said.
As elections are near and Rahul Gandhi is a tough opposition to the BJP and to shun the voice of the Congress, the BJP is targeting our leader, Tuki added.
Former Minister Tanga Byaling also questioned the BJP government for targeting Congress leaders. "There are many cases pending against many leaders but no action have been taken till date, but the BJP is targeting only Congress leaders," he added.
The “Satyagrah” is being held after Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha, a day after a court in Gujarat’s Surat convicted him in a 2019 defamation case.The disqualification will bar Gandhi (52), a four-time MP, from contesting polls for eight years unless a higher court stays his conviction.
The Congress leader claimed that the action against him was taken because Prime Minister Narendra Modi was "scared" of his next speech in Parliament on the Adani issue and alleged that the "whole game" was to distract people from the issue and the panic the government was feeling over the matter.
