ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Facing backlash from the public for its handling of the APPSC fiasco, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) today stated that the Home Minister and few organizations are misleading the public to defame the union. The union said that it had issued the same assurance to the PAJSC on February 18 last to cool down the two days of mass protest as it was already discussed in the joint meeting held on January 10 last.
Speaking to the reporters, General Secretary –AAPSU Ritum Tali claimed that there is nothing new in the recent assurance given by the state government to the Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee (PAJSC)  on the APPSC fiasco, as the same assurance to resolve the 13-point demands was already given by the Home Minister on January 10 last.
"Since Day one, AAPSU has supported the demands of the aspirants; however, we have clearly mentioned that the arrest of officials without any lead would be difficult. In the last joint meeting, officials clearly stated that both the CBI and SIC have already interrogated Chairman Nipo Nabam but didn’t get any lead to arrest him as of now," Tali said.
On demands for Null & Void of examination, the AAPSU has a clear stand that no innocent should be victimized, so we have urged for fair investigation and if 60% of the result has malpractices then they may think for Null & Void as per the rule, the general secretary said.
Tali also claimed that, during the joint meeting with the Home Minister it was clearly stated that the state government cannot declare "Null & Void” it can only recommend the Commission or to the court, and for that there should be a proper body in the Commission. Interestingly same assurance was made in the last resolution of February 18 last, asserted Tali while adding that the whole episode of two days bandh call was to mislead the public.
"As far as the demand for ED is concerned, the SP (SIC) had already informed that a team of ED is working on the disproportionate property of Nipo Nabam, and others," he said.
On the demand for endorsing upcoming exams of the commission to the UPSC, the union said that endorsing the UPSC to conduct the exams will not bring a long-term solution. Rather, it may create issues in the existing structure of recruitment, like the seat reservation of 80:20, age relaxation, and other privileges of APST candidates.
“AAPSU rather suggested for a retired or active member of UPSC to be appointed to direct or oversee the new SOP under the state commission in context to the state of Karnataka. The state government can recommend for the same for free and fair examination,” he added.
Meanwhile, Byabang Hapo, Finance Secretary AAPSU also informed that the union will register an FIR in SIC against those who vandalized the AAPSU office and public properties during the two-day ICR bandh call. If the state government fails to arrest those culprits, AAPSU may go for a statewide bandh March next.
