Deomali, Aug 24: The Tirap Police has launched a unique initiative 'Project Pratighaat'  to tackle the serious issue of drug addiction in the district.
What makes 'Project Pratighaat - Nari Shakti' stand out is its fresh approach. This is the first time such a thorough effort has been made in Tirap district. By getting women's groups, local police, and district authorities involved, the initiative aims to create an environment where drug addiction is not accepted.
The initiative took its first step by organizing a special event to bring together women based NGOs and self-help groups at Deomali, Tirap district on Wednesday where over 300 people attended.
Speaking on the occasion, Superintendent of Police, Rahul Gupta, said that the unique aspect about this initiative is its Police partnership with women based groups. These determined volunteers, along with local police, will take up the important task of counseling and guiding young people addicted to drugs and their families, the SP said. The SP office will keep a close watch on the counseling efforts. Necessary steps will be taken in cooperation with the district administration, depending on each situation.
ADC Deomali, Vishakha Yadav, and Sontung Lowang Bangsia, Chairperson, Care Me Home Drug de-addiction cum rehabilitation centre also spoke on the occasion in which both of them appealed all to join hands to fight against drug abuse and eradicate drug and kaani (Opium) from the region.
The participants in Deomali program came together with great energy and determination to address a common problem - drug addiction. This pioneering program is a cooperative effort that aims to change things by uniting the community to fight the drug problem.
