Yingkiong, Jul 22: The Sikiing Kojee Charitable Society, Yingkiong organised a one-day awareness programme on the ill effects of drugs and substance abuse and POCSO Act 2012 in collaboration with District Legal Service Authority, Upper Siang, Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society,Yingkiong Unit and the Department of WCD’s District Child Protection Unit here today.
The programme aimed to raise awareness and knowledge on ill effects of drugs abuse, legal implications and child rights protections act among parents and their wards including the teaching fraternity.
Resource persons of the programme Dr. Karo Teng, MD(Psy), SMO(SG), Nodal Officer De-Addiction Centre, District Hospital Yingkiong threw light on multiple drug use and its management and elaborated on the consequences of drug addictions on health, social and legal aspects.
Advocate Olen Komut, DLSA Yingkiong spoke on Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act of 2012 (POCSO Act) and sensitized the students on good touch and bad touch and legal framework for protection of child rights.
Officer In-Charge Police Station Yingkiong, Mongol Koyu also briefly spoke on the role of Police in containing increasing scenario of drugs related cases in Upper Siang district. DIPRO
