ITANAGAR, Mar 17: In a significant victory for the Capital Police team, Md. Majibur Rahman, the prime accused in the 2008 Akashdeep twin murder case, has been convicted to life imprisonment by the District & Sessions Judge, Yupia. This milestone marks the culmination of an extensive 12-year manhunt and reinforces the dedication and perseverance of the Capital Police team in ensuring justice is served, stated SP capital in a press statement.
Rahman was wanted in connection with the heinous crime that took place in Itanagar in 2008. He had managed to evade the law and even escaped from Jully Jail in 2012. However, the Capital Police team remained relentless in their pursuit of justice.
Rahman was wanted in connection with the Akashdeep double murders in 2008, which involved the rape and murder of two sisters running a beauty parlour in Itanagar.
The successful apprehension of Rahman last year was a major breakthrough in the case, and the subsequent conviction brings closure to the families of the victims. The Capital Police team's tireless efforts have been lauded by various organisations, including the Arunachal Pradesh Women's Welfare Society (APWWS).
In a statement, the SP Capital praised the team's dedication and perseverance, saying, "This conviction not only marks the culmination of a long-standing investigation but also reinforces the commitment of the Capital Police team in ensuring justice is served."
On 12 June, 2008, a case was registered in Itanagar police station vide case no 108/08 u/s 302/376/457/380/34 IPC regarding the gruesome rape and murder of two sisters who ran a beauty parlor at Ganga market here the previous night.
