Itanagar, Jul 13: The ballot box, ballot papers, special pens, and other sealed election materials for the Presidential polls scheduled on July 18 arrived in the Arunachal Pradesh capital Itanagar on Wednesday under appropriate security measures as per the Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines, official sources said.
Escorted by police personnel, the ballot box and other sealed election materials were brought to the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Secretariat here by a team of officers comprising Legislative Assembly Additional Secretary cum Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) Tadar Meena and Under Secretary Longman Ronrang from New Delhi.
Later, the ballot box and other election materials were kept in the makeshift strong room on the Assembly Secretariat campus.
The strong room has been sealed and the sealing process video-graphed as instructed by ECI, while the State Police team has been engaged to guard the strong room 24x7.
In the national capital, a Delhi Police team consisting of eight personnel in two vehicles with one sub-inspector and one ASI escorted the team up to the airport.
Apart from that, one PSO and commando team escorted them up to the airport. The help desk posted by the ECI at IGI Airport also helped the officers.
During transportation, it was ensured that the ballot box fly on a separate air ticket beside seat of the officer transporting the materials under her personal supervision. Further, the Director General of Police was requested to depute police personnel for pilot-escort duty today from Mohanbari Airport in Assam’s Dibrugarh to the Assembly Secretariat here. 
The entire process of movement from Mohanbari to Itanagar was video graphed and recorded by the Department of Information & Public Relations, Arunachal Pradesh and Doordarshan as per the ECI guidelines.
Arunachal Pradesh has three MPs – two in the Lower House and one in the Upper House – and 60 MLAs, including 48 from the ruling BJP, four each from Congress and NPP, one from JD(U) and three Independents.
Sources said that in Arunachal Pradesh, the value of the vote of an MP is 700, while that of an MLA is 8.
NDA’s Presidential nominee Droupadi Murmu, who has been pitted against the joint Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha, visited Arunachal on July 6 last to seek support for her candidature in the forthcoming polls.
The ECI has appointed Naresh Pal Gangwar, IAS as an observer for the election to the office of the President of India, 2022 for Arunachal Pradesh, sources said.
