ITANAGAR, Feb 21: The President of India Droupadi Murmu on the second day of her two-day maiden visit to Arunachal Pradesh planted a Red Sandalwood sapling in the premises of Raj Bhawan, Itanagar on Tuesday morning, before leaving for Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly to address a Special Session.
The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt General Kaiwalya Trivikram Parnaik, PVSM, UYSM, YSM (Retd) and officers and officials of Raj Bhawan were present on the occasion.
The plantation was organised in the front lawns of the main building of Raj Bhavan where the President planted a sapling of ‘Pterocarpus Santalinus’, commonly known as Red Sandalwood. This species of timber, is one of the most valuable plant species found in Southern parts of India, and is generally used for medicinal purposes as antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, tonic etc, besides furniture making.
The President of India thus carried on the exclusive tradition of planting saplings by the visiting dignitaries in Raj Bhawan premises.
