ITANAGAR, Apr 25:  Chimpu Police arrested a father-son duo in connection with the murder of a young man identified as Manish Kumar, which has sent shockwaves through the community.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by  Ashok Kumar, the father of the deceased, the attack took place around 7:30 PM on the evening of April 23rd last near the Government Middle School cum Children’s Park in the Battalion Headquarters Complex, Chimpu, Itanagar. Manish Kumar was viciously attacked with a sharp weapon allegedly by Mohan Roy, a Constable serving in 1st IRBn, Namsangmukh, presently attached to Police Headquarters and his son.
Inspector Neeraj Nishant, Officer-in-Charge of Chimpu Police Station, took swift action upon receiving FIR Chimpu PS Case No. 31/2024 u/s 120(B)/302 IPC and verbal input about the incident at around 7:45 PM the same evening. A team was dispatched to the scene immediately, informed SP Itanagar Rohit Rajbir Singh(IPS).
During the investigation, blood samples were collected from the spot, and a rough sketch map was drawn to aid the inquiry. Furthermore, the arrested accused, Mohan Roy, and his son, were apprehended on the same night of the incident.
During interrogation, Mohan Roy confessed to committing the crime and provided crucial information regarding the disposal of evidence, including the blood-stained shirt he wore during the incident and the murder weapon. Subsequently, the items were recovered in the presence of independent witnesses, with proper videography documentation, added SP in its press communique.
Further, it was discovered that both the accused and the Child in Conflict with Law (CCL) sustained injuries during the altercation. Witnesses who rushed to the victim's aid confirmed that Manish Kumar identified his attackers before succumbing to his injuries.
The motive behind the gruesome attack appears to be rooted in a past relationship between the deceased and the daughter of the accused, a fact allegedly revealed to Mohan Roy by family members recently.
While Mohan Roy remains in police custody, his son has been sent to an observation home. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities promising a thorough inquiry into the matter, added SP.
